On 1st March 2018, when newspaper reported that an elephant had intruded into a primary school canteen in Telupid, a town in mid Sabah, it prompted a few like minded individuals to come together to discuss ways to minimize or even solve the issues of human and elephant conflicts.
After a brainstorming session, it was decided that we form a Trust towards this purpose. It will be called RESPECT, RESPonsible Elephant Conservation Trust.

The objectives:
– To create a managed large scale landscape appropriate for elephant behavior and ecology
– To engage the local community in the management of the landscape
